Foster care is a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week experience. Children's stay in care can range from a month to several years.

To be considered as a Foster Parent with A World For Children you must:

• be a resident of the state of Texas
• be responsible, mature, healthy adult capable of meeting the needs of children in care
• be at least 24 years of age
• have no criminal record
• have no history of abusing a child
• have been married at least one year (if married)
• have been divorced or widowed at least one year (if divorced or widowed)
• have negative T.B. test
• not be dependent upon the income from foster children to support you or your family
• have your own dependable transportation
• have a bedroom of at least 80 square feet for a foster child

You must also:

• pass health and fire inspection conducted on your home
• complete required hours of foster parent training
• be willing to abide by a policy of no physical discipline
• be willing to abide by the state agency standards, policies, practices and procedures
